Other Relationship Information about Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi:
McNair and Kazemi were together just two days before their deaths, when she was pulled over driving a 2007 Escalade registered to her and McNair. She was arrested on a DUI charges, and he was allowed to leave in a taxi. An arrest affidavit from Thursday said Kazemi had bloodshot eyes and alcohol on her breath when she was pulled over, but refused a breathalyzer test, saying "she was not drunk, she was high." McNair and Kazemi knew each other from a restaurant the quarterback and his family frequented, but workers there wouldn't talk about their relationship. Police also refused to release any details about their relationship, simply calling Kazemi a "friend." McNair and his family frequented the restaurant where Kazemi was a waitress, according employees and patrons of Dave & Buster's in Nashville. Keith Norfleet, Kazemi's ex-boyfriend, told The Tennessean newspaper that McNair and Kazemi met at the restaurant.
Their bodies were discovered by McNair's longtime friend, Wayne Neeley, who rents the condo with McNair. Neeley told authorities he went into the condo, saw McNair and Kazemi, but walked first into the kitchen before going back into the living room. Neeley then called a friend, who alerted authorities. Police said a witness saw McNair arrive at the condo in the upscale Rutledge Hill neighborhood between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Saturday and that Kazemi's vehicle was already there. The condominium is located within walking distance of an area filled with restaurants and nightspots, a few blocks from the Cumberland River and within view of the Titans' stadium.
Steve bought Sahel a black Cadillac Escalade and rented her a luxury condominium in Nashville, Tennessee where the two would meet regularly. Sahel's ex-boyfriend, Keith Norfleet, said that Sahel felt that Steve was dragging her along and she began behaving erratically. Sahel told the Tenessee newspaper, "[Steve] was making her believe they were going to be together and everything would be perfect." According to Keith, Sahel was last spotted banging on his (Norfleet's) door in the middle of the night looking to talk. He wasn't home to converse with her and the next day, Steve and Sahel were found dead. Steve was found lying on the sofa with multiple gunshot wounds and one shot to his head. Sahel was lying on the floor near him with one gunshot to her head and a pistol lying under her body.
Two weeks before their deaths, Kazemi and McNair planned a trip to Las Vegas. Kazemi flew from Tennessee to Nevada to meet McNair, but he never arrived.
Soheyla Kazemi, sister of McNair's mistress, said she was concerned about the age difference between her sister and the former quarterback but "she never listened to nobody." Soheyla said she had a chance to meet McNair when she traveled to Tennessee for Sahel's 20th birthday party. "He was nice," she said. "He did everything for my daughter." Soheyla said despite Sahel's sad childhood, in recent months her sister "had never been happier." Like Sahel's niece, Sepide Salmani, her sister does not believe she was capable of murder. "It's not true. She loves Steve too much," Soheyla, 46, said. She said they were planning to get married. She also said her sister was expecting McNair to leave his wife in the next two or three weeks so they could marry. Soheyla said she chatted with Sahel several times a day through Facebook. She said her sister began dating the married ex-football player about five months ago and was in love with him.
Nashville police have revealed that the gun found at the murder scene was purchased by Sahel just two days before the shooting. Investigators believe she purchased the pistol from a private vendor, hours after she was arrested for drunk driving with McNair in her SUV on Thursday night, two nights before their deaths.
The former Titan quarterback was found dead a short six miles from the home he shared with his wife and children. McNair's mother, said she could not bear to follow the investigation. "I don't want to know," Lucille McNair told The Tennessean newspaper. "Because the way I see it, it was the Devil's work and not God's work." "I'm not mad. I am just grieving over my son," she said. "He was a great son [and] he was special. I just have a hard time talking about it - I get teary-eyed." It's not clear if McNair's wife, Mechelle, knew about his brazen affair with the Dave and Buster's server.
"That's why she was like, 'OK, now you're divorcing. We can date,'" Sepideh Salmani said. "He told her, it was going to be finished, the whole divorce was going to be done, two weeks from yesterday." Salmani said her sister believed that she and McNair would move in together once the divorce was final, and eventually marry. Davidson County's court record show no pending divorce for McNair and his wife Mechelle.
In an emotional tribute to his longtime quarterback, Titan's coach Jeff Fisher said, "the Steven McNair I know would want me to say 'I am sorry.'" "'I am not perfect," Fisher imagined McNair saying. "We all make decisions that are not in the best interest. Please forgive me.'"
