Other Relationship Information about Marilyn Monroe and John Gilmore:

Marilyn and Gilmore were : "friends" from 1953 until a year or so before her death. They were to star in a movie together (Woman of Summer, or The Stripper), a Jerry Wald Production, buyt Marilyn was fired from the studio (20th Century Fox) before film rolled. Gilmore claims Marilyn's accidental death due to overdose is the reason he quit acting and turned full time to writing. However, he did two more pictures at Fox. According to "inside" sources, Gilmore and Marilyn were not romantically involved over the years they were "friends" (1953 until 1961), but while they were to star together in The Stripper, they had a brief affair. Gilmore is a key speaker at the Marilyn Monroe Memorials held annually in Westwood, CA, Marilyn's resting place.

Gilmore has written a memoir about his friendship with Marilyn, "INSIDE MARILYN MONROE", but avoids any sexual details. It is now known that these "details" did not occur until the year before Marilyn's death. Gilmore also wrote a highly successful memoir, LAID BARE, in which he mentions his first meetings with Marilyn, though in this earlier book he also avoids details. Curtis Harrington, movie director and associate producer for Jerry Wald (20th Century Fox), knew both Marilyn and Gilmore. Harrington claims the pair were friends over a number of years (having met through the actor John Hodiak, in Hollywood and New York, but it was not until Fox was to make the ill-fated movie, WOMAN OF SUMMER, staring Marilyn and Gilmore. Harrington told author Charles Higham it seemed that "Jonathan and Marilyn could have become intimate" if the picture had continued on schedule, and if Marilyn had not been fired by Fox. He later said, "Romance was in their natures, not in their sexual makeup as individuals. They seemed to have an understanding of one another that transcended romantic inclinations..."
