Relationship Information, Quotes, and Trivia

Where and/or how did Jane Asher and Paul McCartney meet?

They met at the Royal Albert Hall on April 18, 1963 in London.

Why did Jane Asher and Paul McCartney break up?

A standard explanation for why Asher broke off the engagement in early 1968 was that after coming back from Bristol, she found Paul in bed with another woman. However the "other woman", Francine Schwartz, states that "they were on the verge of breaking up when I arrived in London. Right after I met Paul he went to his farm in Scotland, and I believe Jane was with him, and that they were trying to work it out, but failed, because he came on with me as soon as he got back to London. I detail the actual events in the E! TV interview. Bottom line: She did come to the house one morning and knock on the bedroom door... but that was well after she had announced that the engagement was off, on TV. I believe that the "sound bite" psychology is what contributed to the myth that persists even today. It's a simple explanation for a very complicated and hard to condense process that was ongoing." Classic Quotes by Jane Asher and Paul McCartney about their relationship:

"I am not Paul's wife-but yes, we are going to get married. We won't be married for a while yet, but when it happens we've got a family planned. First we want a boy and then-come what may. There's no particular reason why we are not getting married right away, except that we're both pretty line young...I shan't give up my career unless it interferes with our being together...I love Paul. I love him deeply, and he feels the same. I don't think either of us has looked at anyone else since we first met...I want to get married probably this year and have lots and lots of babies. I certainly would be surprised indeed if I married anyone but Paul." Jane Asher 1966
"I haven't broken it off, but it is broken off,finished...I know it sounds corny, but we still see each other, and love each other, but it hasn't worked out. Perhaps we'll be childhood sweethearts and meet again, and get married when we're about seventy." Jane Asher 7/20/1968
"We nearly did get married. But it always used to fall short of the mark and something happened. And one of us would think it wasn't right...Jane and I had a long good relationship." Paul McCartney 7/1968
