"We had sex for months without using condoms - he hated them. He didn't want to go with me to get the Pill, and I felt weird going alone. But then a friend had a pregnancy scare and I started to worry. So I gave Derek another ultimatum: 'We need to use condoms, quit having sex, or break up.' We broke up. I was heartbroken, but I knew I had to protect my body if Derek wouldn't. After we split, I went on the Pill to take charge of my body - even though I wasn't having sex at the time. Derek and I got back together after four months and started having sex again. We didn't think about using condoms, because I was on the Pill and was having sex with only him. Then I got tonsillitis. When I was at the doctor's office with my mom, my doc asked if I was on birth control. I said no because I didn't want my mom to know. But the antibiotics he gave me made the Pill less effective! I cried when I found out I was pregnant, but I had nobody to blame but myself. I wasn't mature enough to be having sex. If I wasn't ready to have an honest conversation with my mom and my doctor, then I wasn't ready for sex."
